Rodney Kline has come to the hills of Point Pleasant, West Virginia in search of the Truth. He doesn't have a personal, deep-seeded reason to know the Truth; he just wants to know what's going on. He enlists the aid of local newspaper woman, Becky Kotts, who could care less about "the Truth"! And as they venture out into the night of the mysterious Appalachian mountains ... they find more questions than answers.
When I discovered the Mothman in an upcoming preview for "The Mothman Prophecies", I was stunned that I had never heard of this creature before in my life! This was one movie I was making a mental checklist to watch! Then I saw the film and was very intrigued.
Then I read John Keel's book. I never watched the movie again.
I was absolutely captivated by Keel's tales about the Mothman and seemingly everything else under the paranormal umbrella! "Why couldn't they have just made the movie from all the incredible stuff in the book," I wondered in frustration. "What? Hollywood make a movie unlike the book? Never!"
I always thought Keel's book would make good copy for stories surrounding all that Mothman hoopla, as Becky Kotts would say. So with "Out There" I have a chance to tell some of those stories. But "Out There" will center around more than Point Pleasant, West Virginia and the Mothman - just like Keel's book.
UFOs, Men in Black and ... Bigfoot? All of these touch the mystery of the Mothman, or the Mothman touches them. Who knows? And that's the point of "Out There". This is not a book that is trying to answer all the questions. Keel didn't even attempt that feat. But that's where the fun lies. Unsolved mysteries are always so much more entertaining that answers and how things tie together. Once you know the answers ... end of story. And it's more than that; it's the end of adventure - the quest itself!
"Out There" will attempt to build story around characters, introduce many questions, and have fun probing the answers, and set to the backdrop of spooky and gloomy night skies. Oh, this series will be out there! Have fun with it.
